Our leader has gained notoriety,
For insulting his allies’ propriety;
Has not tried — much less willed —
A consensus to build,
He is sand in the gears of society.
We welcome our new “Madame Speaker,”
A bona fide pro, thus we seek her;
May her compromise skills
Help bridge dissonant wills,
Thus proving which sex is the weaker!
The Congress is hamstrung by the furlough,
While serious problems still burrow;
The new Congress is tested,
By migrants arrested,
Our system is still far from thorough.
The economy’s basis is sound,
And DC waits for markets rebound;
If he churns up a scare,
Trump contends it’s his flair,
But his tweets are the things that confound!
Today is the Friday most black,
When the retailers score what they lack;
Be it color or size,
Or a style compromise,
Just shop! You can take it all back!
The Fourteenth Amendment makes clear,
An Amcit is one who’s born here;
And the child can’t be faulted
Nor parents assaulted,
Escaping from hunger and fear.
Now the President’s starting to sing
That truth is a relative thing:
“I admit that I relish,
A chance to embellish,
But the truth won’t get voters to swing!”
